“Oh, Lord I grieve for the country…”

“Oh, Lord I grieve for the country…” is a vocal and poetry performance from the series ” Poland Painted with Poetry and Songs” created especially on the occasion of the Polonia Day and Poles Abroad, which we are celebrating on May 2. It is one of the events to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Polish & Slavic Center.

By combining beautiful songs of Chopin, Moniuszko, Karłowicz, and folk songs with the poetry of our great classical masters Mickiewicz, Słowacki and more contemporary ones such as Jan Lechon or Władysław Bełza, we want to bring the spirit of the family home, which is Poland that is like a mother for her children scattered all over the world; as you can see in the painting by Jacek Malczewski “Motherland”. We will present to you what is the most important in the hearts of every fellow countryman abroad, God and the Homeland, and what is the most difficult obstacle abroad, that is longing for loved ones, for our hometowns, for customs that we remember from our childhood, longing for our native home. It always stays with us.
