National Reading of Jan Kochanowski’s Poetry

On September 11, the Krakus Senior Center, part of the Polish & Slavic Center, hosted a unique celebration – the National Reading of Jan Kochanowski’s poetry, created and led by Kasia Drucker together with the Theatre and Opera Society and Krakus Choir.  The guest of honor was none other than Jan Kochanowski himself, brilliantly portrayed by Andrzejek Michoń, a well-known and beloved figure of the Polish community in New York. Kasia Drucker Voice, appearing as the “lady of Czarnolas court,” guided the entire program with elegance and artistry, recreating the atmosphere of the 16th century. The Krakus Choir performed the moving hymn “Czego chcesz od nas, Panie” and recited Kochanowski’s epigrams, songs, and laments. Volunteers from the Krakus and JP2 Clubs also joined in, embracing the challenge of reading the Master’s poetry live.  The event was not only a beautiful encounter with literature but also a symbolic act of bringing generations together and celebrating Polish cultural heritage in the heart of New York. We warmly thank all participants and guests – and already invite you to next year’s National Reading!
