Another Polish rock event is coming up. On Saturday, September 14, the Polish-Slavic Center in Greenpoint at 177 Kent Street will host the second edition of the PSC Rock Festival, and the newly renovated former church building will once again be transformed into a temple of rock.
The first edition of the PSC Rock Festival took place in the fall of 2023 and brought together excellent performers, and the audience had a great time throughout the evening. This year will certainly be no different. Young performers will perform on stage, but there will also be no shortage of seasoned musicians. The following bands will play during the 2nd PSC Rock Festival: Minimal Absolution, Simple Sound, and Dzieci PRL-u.
The Minimal Absolution band was formed in 2017. The 5-person band performs metal and rock music with elements of punk. The band plays melodically and aggressively at the same time. The band’s frontman, Piotr Golda, promises a lot of energy and a large dose of heavy music during the festival. Minimal Absolution will perform in the following line-up: Piotr Golda (vocals), Ruben Jessurum (guitar) and Robert Lewis (guitar). Paweł Golda (drums), Shahob Newman (bass guitar).
The Simple Sound duo, consisting of Łukasz Zdrojewski (guitar, harmonica) and Dorota Flisikowska (vocals), was formed at the end of 2019. The band plays broadly understood indie rock with elements of folk and a large admixture of blues. As Łukasz Zdrojewski emphasizes, the duo tries to create songs that are catchy, often supported by strong vocals.
Dzieci PRL-u is a rock band founded in 2010 in New York. This band is already a true legend of the Polish scene on the East Coast, performing at many events for almost 15 years. As the name suggests, Dzieci PRL-u refers in their style to the roots of contemporary Polish rock music, which was born at a time when Poland was behind the Iron Curtain. Dawid Czajka, the founder and leader of the band, emphasized in an interview that the band will give it their all during the Festival as usual. Knowing Dawid, there should be no doubts in this matter. The Children of the Polish People’s Republic will perform in the following line-up: Dawid Czajka (vocals, bass guitar), Piotr Klassek (guitar), Maciej Majchrowski (guitar), Paweł “Mieczu” Bernasiuk (drums).
“I am very happy that various artists representing various musical genres appear on the stage at the Polish Slavic Center. Rock and metal concerts have been a novelty in our Polonia calendar for a year now and I am extremely proud that they attract new bands and new audiences. I would like to thank the Board of Directors of the PSC, who trusted us and expressed their consent to new initiatives at the largest Polish organization on the east coast.” – said Agnieszka Granatowska, Executive Director of the PSC. “The choice of artists who will perform during the Festival is not accidental” – said Marcin Żurawicz, the creator of the Festival and its co-organizer. Both Minimal Absolution and Simple Sound are young, extremely talented musicians who are constantly developing. It is worth presenting their original work as often as possible, especially since these are bands that are excellent at playing live. In turn, the veterans from Dzieci PRLu are artists who also have musical talent. And even more so their stage vigor. I think it’s going to be an exciting evening for all rock music lovers. It will certainly be another unforgettable concert in the hospitable walls of the Center.
