Portraits and Landscapes is a celebration of two timeless and foundational photographic genres—portraiture and landscape—brought vividly to life through the diverse, deeply personal interpretations of over 30 photographers. This exhibit, proudly hosted by RIVAA Gallery, gathers the talents of members of the Polish-American Photographic Club and features artists from both the United States and Poland. It is a transatlantic conversation expressed through the lens, offering a rich tapestry of perspectives shaped by cultural heritage, artistic exploration, and individual experience.
Each participating photographer approaches these classical themes with their own visual language—some focusing on the emotional depth of the human face, others capturing the majesty, stillness, or chaos of the natural and built environments around them. From intimate studio portraits to expansive outdoor scenes, the works on display explore identity, memory, time, and place.
A highlight of the exhibition is the inclusion of renowned masters of Polish photography such as Tadeusz Rolke, Tomek Sikora, Eva Rubinstein, Ryszard Horowitz and Tamara Pieńko. These iconic artists have significantly shaped the course of modern photography in Poland and beyond, and their presence in the exhibit adds historical depth and artistic continuity.
Portraits and Landscapes invites viewers to experience how portraiture and landscape—genres rooted in tradition—continue to evolve and resonate in the contemporary world. It is both a tribute to the enduring power of these forms and a platform for new interpretations that cross boundaries of geography, generation, and genre. Ultimately, this exhibit is a celebration of artistic individuality and shared humanity, seen through the eyes of photographers who find beauty, truth, and connection in every frame.
