National Black History Month Celebration at Krakus Senior Center

Today at Krakus Senior Center, operating under the Polish & Slavic Center, we paid tribute to one of the greatest leaders of the civil rights movement – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As part of our Black History Month celebrations, our seniors participated in a special presentation dedicated to his iconic speech, “I Have a Dream.” With great dedication, our seniors read excerpts from this historic speech, which continues to touch hearts and inspire generations. After the reading, we engaged in a meaningful discussion about the significance of Dr. King’s words and his unwavering fight for equality, justice, and civil rights for all—regardless of skin color, faith, or background. During the meeting, we also addressed the difficult history of slavery, which for centuries stripped people of their dignity and basic rights. The struggle for freedom and equality was long and filled with sacrifices, and figures like Dr. King reminds us that social justice requires courage, determination, and solidarity. “I have a dream…” – these words still resonate today, reminding us that the dream of a better world can become a reality if we all strive for the common good. We thank our seniors for their engagement, reflections, and openness to such important topics. Together, we create a community that remembers, appreciates, and learns from the great figures of history!
