Krakus Senior Center at the Culinary Competition!

The Krakus Senior Center PSC, operating under the Polish and Slavic Center, had the honor of being one of nine senior centers selected to participate in the first citywide vegan culinary competition, organized by NYC Department for the Aging. The event took place on March 25, 2025, at The Venue at City Harvest in Brooklyn and provided a unique opportunity to showcase traditional flavors in a modern, plant-based version.
Our Center proudly presented a Polish dish in a vegan adaptation, highlighting the richness of Poland’s culinary heritage in the context of contemporary, healthy eating trends. Representing Krakus, Head Chef Lidia Laszko prepared Polish Style Vegan Stuffed Bell Peppers inspired by classic Polish Gołąbki—a dish deeply rooted in tradition. Along with social worker Agata Forys, they introduced this exceptional dish, sharing the history of Polish cuisine and demonstrating how tradition can be seamlessly blended with modern approaches to healthy eating.
The competition brought together senior centers representing diverse cultures, featuring plant-based versions of traditional dishes from Jamaica, Cuba, and other regions of the world alongside Polish flavors. The event emphasized how plant-based cuisine can not only promote a healthy lifestyle but also respect and celebrate the culinary traditions of various nations.
For our Center, this was a tremendous honor and an excellent opportunity to promote Poland’s culinary heritage in a modern, health-conscious way.
We sincerely congratulate Lidia and the entire kitchen team of the Krakus Senior Center for proudly representing our Center at such a prestigious event. We are incredibly proud of you!
