“The Sparrows Chirp from Early Morning: ‘Today is Women’s Day, Dear Woman!'” This is how the gentlemen and ladies of the “Krakus” choir celebrated Women’s Day on March 6th at the Krakus Senior Center, part of The Polish & Slavic Center (PSC), under the direction of Kasia Drucker. The ladies, dressed in elegant gowns adorned with red beads and flowers, and the gentlemen in stylish suits, took the stage with a sparkle in their eyes and joy in their hearts. Like cheerful sparrows, they performed the “Women’s Day Song” to the melody of “The Sparrows Chirped.” The humorous lyrics were written by our talented senior artist, Anna Kucay. Next, drawing inspiration from the “Experienced Chorister’s Songbook,” they reminded the audience of the wise proverb: “A woman should not even be struck with a flower.” The lyrics reflected a beautiful truth—women should be cherished, for they are as lovely as flowers. But the same applies to men, who, though perhaps not as beautiful as women, possess more virtues than flaws. Loving them, too, makes the world a more beautiful place. Together with the audience, we then raised a champagne toast with the song “To the Health of Ladies,” for though a woman may be fragile, life without her would be meaningless. Every moment without her is a moment lost forever—something truly worth celebrating! And with the next song, the choir humorously affirmed: “Woman, woman, though you have many flaws, without you, what would the world be worth?” From a lively folk song “Is She a Maiden or a Wife?” we learned that it is women who are the cause of love, and without them, a bachelor’s life would be dull and miserable. To sum up, every “Krakus Girl” is like a spark, as graceful as a doll, bringing joy like the brightest star—and for any gentleman, she would be the perfect wife. For the grand finale, we sang “Let’s Drink to the Host’s Health” in honor of all the Zosias, Kates, and Marys, as well as the Jacks, Joes, and Franks. May they live long and happily! Between the songs, the gentlemen read beautiful poems and wishes for our wonderful senior ladies. To conclude the celebration, they handed out traditional carnations to all the senior ladies and the kitchen staff. The choir’s president, Waldemar Ostrowski, who hosted the entire concert, also presented flowers to the staff of PSC, including Executive Director Agnieszka Granatowska. Flowers were also given by the director of the Krakus Senior Center, Artur Pustuła. It was a beautiful, joyful, and festive occasion, with smiles of happiness lighting up the faces of our seniors—clearly visible in the group photo that closed the event. Once again, we wish all ladies a Happy Women’s Day! May your days be filled with joy, love, and cherished friendships—the kind you will always find at the Krakus Senior Club.
