On Thursday, December 19, an intimate Christmas meeting was held at the Kościuszko Foundation headquarters in Manhattan for invited members of the Foundation and friends of this institution.
The event was an excellent opportunity to extend Christmas and New Year’s wishes, which were made by the welcoming guests: Marek Skulimowski – President of the Kościuszko Foundation and Alex Storożyński – Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The meeting was honored by the presence of Mateusz Sakowicz, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in New York, who appeared on site with his wife Bogna Bernaciak-Sakowicz. Members of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation and people who have supported this organization for years also showed up in large numbers.
During the artistic part of the evening, the gathered audience had the opportunity to admire the singers from the Copernicus Choir conducted by Bożena Konkiel. “The Copernicus Choir brings together musically gifted children from the Academy of St. Stanislaus Kostka and KOBO Music Studio.” The young artists, accompanied on the piano by Nicholas Kaponyas, performed Christmas carols and Christmas songs, both in Polish and English. The gathered audience rewarded the singers with thunderous applause. Additionally, the children received Christmas gifts from the Foundation’s authorities.
The students were very excited about the opportunity to perform in such a great place – said Bożena Konkiel, the creator and conductor of the Copernicus Choir. I have had the opportunity to visit and perform at the headquarters of the Kościuszko Foundation many times and these are always ceremonial events, and just before the holidays the atmosphere is even more extraordinary. I would like to thank the Foundation’s authorities for the invitation.
The choir’s concert was the main point of the Christmas meeting. Right after it, the gathered people went for refreshments to celebrate the approaching holidays and the New Year in a less formal atmosphere. There was certainly no shortage of topics to talk about, especially since the Kościuszko Foundation celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2025. In connection with the anniversary, the Foundation’s authorities are planning a series of events that will allow for the full celebration of this important anniversary.
